Case: Finnish language AI
Vake’s spearhead projects in Finnish language AI development generates Finnish language AI resources, such as program libraries, ready-to-use language models and training materials, alongside more mainstream languages. These resources can be utilised by all parties using Finnish language AI either in adapting hardware or software development
Voice-operated equipment and application markets are naturally focused on mainstream languages to cover a wide market potential as possible for their services.
This means that customers will be excluded from these fast-emerging services if investments into our own language are overlooked.
Vake collaborates in this project with the University of Helsinki centre for digital humanities, FIN-CLARIN consortium, Aalto University, Business Finland and the Technology Industries of Finland. The project focuses specifically on the Finnish language, but its model is also applicable in Swedish spoken in Finland and Sami.
